Food Access & Programming

In the absence of a grocery store within walking distance of Eager Park, EBDI is initiating other healthy food programming for Eager Park and the surrounding communities.

Spring/Summer 2023: Community Market at Eager Park

EBDI, in partnership with local community advocate and event planner Dale “Dee” Walker, produced a series of community markets intended to 1) provide access to free fresh produce and a variety of fresh food vendors; 2) create and increase opportunities for local, women and minority-owned businesses, farmers and community groups; and 3) bring together families, neighbors, visitors and local food vendors to create a sense of community and social gathering.

Highlights from our June 2023 Community Market

šŸŽĀ We gave away 52 boxes’ worth of FREE fresh produce—apples, oranges, bananas, strawberries, corn, bell peppers, spinach, kale, cucumbers, collard greens, eggs and more—to help increase food security in the community.

🌽 There were close to 20 vendors, ALL local, ALL minority-owned and nearly all women-owned!

🧁 Kids (and some adults, too!) enjoyed free face painting and hula-hooping.

🌮 Several community partners joined us to provide free resources to the community.
