Food Access & Programming

In the absence of a grocery store within walking distance of Eager Park, EBDI is initiating other healthy food programming for Eager Park and the surrounding communities.

SPRING/SUMMER 2023: COMMUNITY MARKET AT EAGER PARK
EBDI, in partnership with local community advocate and event planner Dale "Dee" Walker, produced a series of community markets intended to 1) provide access to free fresh produce and a variety of fresh food vendors; 2) create and increase opportunities for local, women and minority-owned businesses, farmers and community groups; and 3) bring together families, neighbors, visitors and local food vendors to create a sense of community and social gathering.

A few highlights from our June 2023 Community Market:

🍎 We gave away 52 boxes’ worth of FREE fresh produce—apples, oranges, bananas, strawberries, corn, bell peppers, spinach, kale, cucumbers, collard greens, eggs and more—to help increase food security in the community.

🌽 There were close to 20 vendors, ALL local, ALL minority-owned and nearly all women-owned!

🧁 Kids (and some adults, too!) enjoyed free face painting and hula-hooping.

🌮 Several community partners joined us to provide free resources to the community.

FALL/WINTER 2022: FREE PRODUCE PICKUP
EBDI, in valued partnership with local minority business Kiss Tomorrow Hello and commercial partner Ventas/Lillibridge, presented a brand new Produce Pickup For The People food access initiative during fall/winter 2022. Below is a quick summary, but click here to read a full recap of this initiative!

FALL 2022: THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
Many people in East Baltimore struggle with hunger and rely on support and resources dedicated to alleviating hunger and poverty. To respond to this need, EBDI and our partners produced a Thanksgiving Food Drive during the holiday season.
